Thursday and We are Back!

For the last couple of weeks I was unable to add any new posts to my blog. I was really getting worried and tried a number of things suggested on different blogger forums but to no avail. Then this evening I just tried to get onto the blog and check one more time and voila it was back to normal! What went wrong I don't know but I am glad I can get back to all of you folks out in the blog-o-sphere!

Last week was Nala's 3rd birthday and we had a quiet celebration at home. She was really looking forward to a birthday party with cake and a few canine pals but the weather has made things difficult! There is just about 3 feet of snow piled out there and now they are predicting rain for tomorrow. Time to construct an ark! We will do something special for her when the weather gets warmer, maybe for now the best thing to do is a trip to Petsmart.

Though Nala has taken to the snow and has confused herself with a Husky at times. She does love to romp around in it and take a good bite out of a snow bank every now and then.

Well glad to be  back and stay warm and think of spring folks...after all its only 27 days away!

Super Bowl Sunday and Bulldogs Rate

We are all set for watching the Super Bowl today. Though I don't particularly favor either team, I wouldn't mind seeing Peyton Manning get the win! While Nala looks forward more to the snacks than the sacks!

Big news in the bulldog world today. Bulldogs made the top ten list of most popular dog breeds in the US, while being in the top spots, along with their cousins the French Bulldogs in New York City. Perhaps because they are such couch potatoes and rather watch "Breaking Bad" with their owners than romping around the block?!

The Super Bowl is actually taking place right down the road from where we live today but we will be couch side at home watching it.

Good luck to both teams!

Nala is getting her game on!

Beautiful Bullie Saturday

Nala had her bath and nails done at the veterinarians this time around. Another good reason perhaps for her not to like going there! They did a good job and the cost is the same as the groomer we went to.

Here she is with her pink bandanna! Tres chic Nala, tres chic!

MLK Monday

I was lucky and delighted  enough to be home on this Martin Luther King holiday. Nala was sure happy that I was home too, looking to me to play with her by the minute. We played fetch and then I gave her a bully stick to munch on. After the bully stick proved to be boring I decided to break out the Kong and place some au natural peanut butter in it. That did work for a good half hour or so, with her making loud sucking noises through the large end as she tried for the last bit of peanut butter clinging to the sides.

"I know you're in there peanut butter!"

I leave you with a quote from MLK, one that I think I will add to my daily list of mantras!

“Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.”

Move Over Monday

Hubby has been sick with a very bad cold the last few days (perhaps the flu)!  Bad enough to keep him up at night with a terrible relentless cough! He has to sleep semi upright on his recliner in order to get any rest at all!

Nala has taken this opportunity to commandeer his side of the bed. For the last few nights she patiently waits for me to ascend the stairs to start my night time routine. Teeth brushed, lights out and there she is waiting for a boost up into the human bed.

I can't resist to help her up. Unsuspecting Nala doesn't know that this human mattress time is limited. Once Pop is feeling better she will have to move over or go back to her canine crib!

"Ahh you humans have it made! So comfy!"

Sweet Tooth Saturday

Here we are on a rainy Saturday. Finally the Christmas tree is down, I was beginning to think how I could decorate it for Valentine's day!

Nala has been acting strangely as of late. She now likes to spend time downstairs with Grandpaw, just simply hanging out with him. She would hardly ever go downstairs before this. I am not sure why the big change?! Perhaps its warmer down there or Grandpaw has some good doggie treats stashed away?

Speaking of treats, I came upon an article in the Dogington Post about sugar being the main ingredient in many popular dog treats. Of course we all know that too much sugar in your diet can be disastrous for your health. Dogs are affected the same way people are by sugar, obesity, diabetes etc, and really aren't meant to have sugar in their food! But they are suckers just like us...we love the stuff and can't get enough of it at times!

I try to read all of  the ingredients on the packages of treats I buy. I am just checking a bag of Zuke's Li'l Links that I recently purchased and the first ingredient is pork followed by apples, carrots, potatoes and then maple syrup, which I assume is the sweet factor in this treat. Though I prefer the maple syrup to plain ole sugar, is this an acceptable ingredient?

Check out the link to the story and be on the look out for sneaky sugar in your dog's food!

It's Winter Time in the City

Nala made a quick dash for the yard this morning and didn't take long to do her business! We received about 7 inches of wind blown snow overnight with temps hovering around 11 degrees Fahrenheit. Though she has gone out 6 times since then all for short sprints in the backyard tundra! I guess she really likes the snow but the bitter cold we could all do without!

So how many days to spring is it anyway?!

A New Year and New Habits

We got through all the holiday hoopla and are ready for 2014. The usual resolutions were expressed such as losing weight,  volunteer, recycle, get fit, save money blah blah! I know my personal goal this year is to be more organized. Though my home is not horribly messy it at times has items that occupy their wrong space. Such as my snow boots sitting by the front door for weeks instead of the closet upstairs or the pliers I used months ago laying on my desk that should go back to the tool bench in the garage.

Lately I fell victim to one of these items that don't belong where they happen to be. I was playing with Nala on the floor when as I got up to walk away I had the misfortune to step on one of her nylabones in my stocking feet. My legs went out from under me like a race horse taking off at the gate and at one point I am sure I was horizontal and levitated at least 5 feet off the ground! I landed with a resounding thud onto the wood floor missing the forgiving softness of the carpet by inches! "Yowweee!" ..could be heard for miles, followed by an assortment of expletives! I screamed out for my husband thinking for sure that something was broken! As he rushed over I soon discovered that I luckily was still in one piece while he helped me to my feet. "Darn that nylabone what was it doing there!" "Either it's my terrible housekeeping or Nala forgot to put her toys away!"

Well my aching back the next day is the painful reminder of the old adage, "a place for everything and everything in it's place." Going forward I will return all things to their proper spot for 2014 though I am not sure if I can so much for my aching back!

"Oops, was that my nylabone?!"

Wishing you a happy, healthy, organized New Year!

Winter Wednesday

Yup, you guessed it! More of the white stuff in our area yesterday. To Nala the world is just one giant snow cone!

Simply Sunday and let it Snow!

Sorry I haven't been around much lately! My boss has been out for 2 weeks with an injured back and I have been working extra hours in order to full in for her. Yikes, what crazy time of year for me but the extra money helps for the holidays! All I need is the time to go spend it! Nala has been wondering what's up with me coming home late every day. I don't think she cares for it but it seems to be only a temporary condition, and soon enough I will be back to my old schedule.

The weather this weekend certainly has kept us home with at least 6 inches of snow that started early Saturday morning and with more ahead in the forecast for Tuesday we will be giving our shovels a work out! (and our aching backs) At least Nala loves the snow. She can't wait to run around the yard in the white stuff.....she has a blast out there! It's hard to get her to come in!

Right now she is peacefully snoring away on the couch as I do a little bit of on line shopping. I put a bid in for a decanter that is in the shape of a bulldog dressed in a  football uniform. It's really cute and I hope I get it but I have found out that on Ebay the shipping can be more than the item you purchase...and sometimes a lot more! They also don't give you a choice of a cheaper/different shipping method so I am not too pleased with that!

"C'mon in Nala it's almost dinner time!"

Have a good week all and happy shopping!

Sunday and The Trouble with Turkey!

We had an enjoyable Thanksgiving here at our home and a relaxing weekend...sort of . There were a gathering at our house of 20 people and things got quite hectic. Trying to get everything on the table at once and coordinating it with the turkeys ( one 13 lb er and one 8 lb breast) was a bit challenging. Everyone was having so much fun talking and noshing and drinking that it was difficult to corral them to the dinner table! Next year it's going to be a buffet for sure! The whole turkey is cooked up on our gas grill using the rotisserie attachment. I must say it came out the best ever this year with hat's off to our good friend Vinnie who man's the grill!

Nala enjoyed the festivities and was the bell of the ball sort to speak. It was an opportunity for some family members to finally meet her. She was treated by various guests to pieces of turkey. I guess she looked so cute and hungry folks couldn't resist! But each eager guest didn't realize that she probably already had 15 pieces of turkey before they gave her one!

That night the rumbling began. Nala was sleeping her little bed in my room when I awoke around 4:30 AM to the sounds of Nala's stomach doing the 1812 Overture. I was waiting for any minute to make the mad dash with her to the back yard. She manage to hold out until 7:00 AM when I took her outside to have her holiday diarrhea! Yes a few pieces of turkey is a great treat, 3 pounds with dressing is a digestive disaster for a dog. Oh well...she was fine after that and just hung out with us as we dragged out the Christmas decorations and put them up this weekend.

Let the holidays begin!

Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving and  Hanukkah  this week!

"Come on already..let's have some of that turkey!"

Turkey done up on the rotisserie. Now that's a turkey done right!
