In Memory of Ozzie

Today would of been Ozzie's 6th birthday. Our loving bullie boy has been gone just about 6 months now and we still miss him dearly.I can visualize him on the front porch watching the neighbors walking by with their dogs, content to survey his little kingdom or chomping happily on a bullie stick in the living room.

Yes we will never forget the bulldog who started it all, taken too soon from us but gave us so much love in that short time.

Tuesday and Under Bite Blues

For some reason Nala was giving the underbite a full reveal this morning. Displaying her bottom teeth, she was just as cute as ever!

Nala the fierce bulldog! (Not really!)

Whiney Friday!

Nala has been whining all morning to go outside. Gratefully, the heat wave finally broke and Nala can go out and play! Whoopee!

Given the opportunity this weekend I may try this new dog food recipe with ground turkey. Sounds easy to make and delicious..I mean for Nala that is!

Have a great weekend all.

Perspiration Tuesday

So we are having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave.....really...I'm not just using the Irving Berlin lyrics for the heck of it. All this week and into the weekend temps are going to be hovering in the 90's with the real feel close to 100 degrees! When I got into my car this afternoon it said 104 but it was sitting in the sun. The thermometer recalibrated as I drove off and then it was only a balmy 96!

If you are reading this and live in Texas or Arizona you are probably laughing and saying to yourself that's nothing but here in New Jersey it is considered big bad heat! Hopefully we won't hear of any moron who left their child or dog in the car this week!

Nala will not be going out for her evening walk because it's still is way to hot by that time unfortunately. It is a bulldog alert day meaning it is way to hot for walking. (Ozzie would of liked that!)  I think she feels like she is being punished when we all know it's for her own good.

I made a batch of yogurt berry cubes to cheer her up and cool her down. A delicious frosty treat that is good for her too!

They are easy to make, just take some frozen mixed berries throw them in the blender and then add to the mix some plain Greek yogurt. Pour into an ice cube tray, freeze and voila!

Stay cool all!

Simply Sunday and Dog TV

Good morning all! Waking up to heat and humidity again after a brief reprieve from it all! Oh well it's July in Jersey...what do you expect! Nala will just be hanging inside with the latest chew toy to pass the time.

Speaking of occupying time for dogs did you hear about DirecTV announcing DogTV available to dog owners starting August 1st . It s 24/7 TV programming designed especially to calm, prevent boredom and relieve doggy depression while we are out to work all day long.

Featuring canine pleasing sounds, colors and yes even classical music with a back drop of interesting scenes of other fellow pups at play its guaranteed to grab Fido's attention. Commercial free (for the moment) it's only $4.99 a month.

Time will tell if this new channel is a hit or flop. Since we have Cablevision we won't be able to check it out but if anyone out there subscribes to it I would love to hear their review!

Mean while we will beat the heat and stay indoors today. Stay cool everyone!

Finally Friday and HIde and Seek!

This morning I let Nala out for her morning constitution and turned my back to water some plants. As I finished I looked back into the yard and didn't see Nala. Where can she be? The yard is totally fenced in.

As I looked to my right I saw some little paws peeking out from the large ornamental grass bush. "I see you Nala, come out, come out, I know where you are!" Nope, she was going to stay right there in her cool little hiding space.

I ask you ......is a bird in hand worth more than a bulldog in a bush? I say "No way!"

Have a great weekend all!

Pass the Pasta Please Wednesday!

Pasta has to be one of Nala's most favorite foods. Come to think of it, it happened to be Ozzie's too! Nala has a technique all her own for slurping down stringy strands of linguine! It may not be the way Emily Post would have recommended for the dinner table but it's fine by Nala!

Happy Independence Day and Pets and Fireworks Don't Mix!

Have a fun and safe holiday and keep your pets indoors. I know Nala will be chilling with the A/C and watching the Animal Planet channel!

Whoa Wednesday!

I came home today to find that Nala had been munching on the copy paper box that we use to throw our recyclable paper waste in. A good size hunk was taking out of the corner and little wet pieces trailed through out the room. I suppose it's frustration chewing but I have noticed she has a penchant for paper!

Tonight on PBS's Nova they have a show called Dogs Decoded all about what makes dogs tick and why we love them so much. Maybe I can find out why Nala loves cardboard better than nylabones!

Have a safe and happy 4th of July!

Welcome Monday and Keep Your Sunglasses Home

Rain rain....seems like that's all the weatherman can talk about this week. Sigh! Anyway yesterday we went to the mega garage sale with proceeds going to the MidAtlanitc Bulldog Rescue and the GreyHound Friends of NJ. Two very worthy causes indeed!

Nala came with us and was delighted to see her former foster mom from MABR, Janis. She was so happy to see her that she peed on her in excitement! Yes I agree not very lady like but Nala can't help herself sometimes!

The rain held out as I searched among all the little treasures that were spread out in the yard. I wasn't looking for anything in particular when I came across a box of old pharmacy bottles. They were interesting especially the amber colored ones. I bought a few and went home with them a couple of other odds and ends. I hope the sale generated some much needed money for the two rescues. Coming up on August  7th, MABR is participating in another fund raising event in NYC which is going to be sponsored by BarkAid. For $20.00 you can get your hair cut by master stylist Patrick Lomantini. Appointment will have to be made so see the MABR site for details.

Looking forward to a short work week and celebrations on the 4th of July. (Remember dogs and fireworks don't mix. Keep them home!)

Nala getting some loving at the gargage sale!

The old pharmacy bottles have a new home on my window ledge!
